Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy Season 2 To Premiere on July: Trailer, Date, Cast, & Episodes Spoilers
Netflix is bringing the second season of the beloved superhero drama, The Umbrella Academy. The first one, released on February 15, 2019, received positive reviews from both critics and the audience. As reported by Netflix, just months after the premiere, 45 million households watched the show. It also ranked third on the list of Netflix’s most popular series, becoming the only three series to make it to Netflix’s overall Top 10 list in 2019. The Umbrella Academy Release Date
To fans delight, Netflix came up with a YouTube video announcing that the superhero Dark Horse Comics-based series will return to the streaming platform on July 31, 2020. The show’s creator, Steve Blackman, once said that it takes about 18 months to make a season, and the July release is the precise date one could expect since season one premiered on February.
In April 2019, Netflix renewed The Umbrella Academy for a new season. Two months later, the cast began filming with Aidan Gallagher posting the news on his Instagram. Netflix also assembled the cast member for a selfie, posting it on October 24, with the caption, ‘Umbrella Academy s2 is coming soon’. While they gave no update on the release date at the time, Netflix France revealed that the season two filming ended earlier than expected.
Despite numerous shows postponing amid the pandemic, Blackman did not let it get in the way of editing. In an Instagram post, he captioned, ‘Even #corona can’t stop an Umbrella Academy Mix! But I swear we’re washing our hands.’
The Umbrella Academy Trailer and Cast
There is no official trailer for the second season of The Umbrella Academy as of now. Since the show will release on July 31, 2020, Netflix may release the trailer by the end of June or early July. Nevertheless, you can enjoy the Netflix teaser for now.
The series regular: Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, and Justin H. Min will reprise their roles in the second season.
Moreover, the official Umbrella Academy Twitter account confirmed three newcomers in the sophomore season: Ritu Arya, Marin Ireland, and Yusuf Gatewood. As per the account, we will see Arya as Lila, Ireland as Raymond, and Gatewood as Sissy.
The Umbrella Academy Season 1 Recap
The Umbrella Academy revolved around the lives of seven adopted siblings, who possess supernatural powers. Following the reunition after being adopted by a billionaire and the creator of The Umbrella Academy, Sir Reginald Hargreeves, the ‘children’ set on a mission to save the world. One of the siblings, however, is kept apart by Hargreeves when he learns she has no powers. At the end of the first season, we saw the time-traveling ability of one of the siblings named Number Five after their mission of stopping the Apocalypse fails, reverting them to teenagers.
