The late actor Reed attended Muskogee High School. Later, he enrolled at the Northwesterrn University in order to study drama. Then, he went to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

6 feet 3 inches tall Robert Reed was a married man. He exchanged wedding vows with Marilyn Rosenberger on July 14, 1954.

Together, the duo welcomed their only child, a daughter named Karen Rietz in 1956. Later, on July 10, 1959, the pair divorced.

Robert was 59 years of age when he died. Back in November 1991, he suffered from colon cancer and died at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, California on May 12, 1992.
